This class is taught in English.
  • Master Counting Skills: Students will confidently count forwards and backwards, understand number sequences, and apply counting strategies to solve various math problems.
  • Develop Addition and Subtraction Fluency: Students will practice adding and subtracting within 20, mastering basic facts and using strategies like counting on and making ten.
  • Understand Place Value: Students will grasp the concept of place value up to tens, learning to identify and represent numbers using base-ten blocks and place value charts.
  • Explore Time and Money: Students will learn to tell time to the hour and half-hour, and recognize coins and their values, applying this knowledge to solve real-world problems.
  • Solve Word Problems: Students will develop problem-solving skills by interpreting and solving word problems involving addition, subtraction, time, and money, using visual aids and manipulatives for deeper understanding.
This curriculum was developed by and used with the permission from Ms. Ashley, an SBA teacher. Ms. Ashley graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in both education and mathematics. Later, she went on to also earn a TESOL teacher’s certificate. She has taught over 10,000+ virtual classes in all subjects over several years on different platforms. She has 18+ years of tutoring/teaching experience, both virtual and in-person, as well as 16 years+ of experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and coach in schools and classrooms. In addition to teaching, Ms. Ashley is part of curriculum development and review team for an online ELA and math teaching/tutoring company, where she also serves as a Learning Partner and Academic Advisor for incoming students. Other related experience includes ELA and math tutoring the University of Connecticut Student Center, substitute teaching in the public school system and working for five years as a Financial Controller of a litigation support firm with offices across the United States. Ms. Ashley truly values each and every student, and she hopes to help them to find a love of learning.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
During class, the teacher may utilize Khan Academy or IXL. These are both online math websites. The teacher may also utilize ABCYa, a website that provides educational games and activities for school-aged children. The student will not need to access these websites.  The teacher will access the website and share with the students using screen-share within Zoom.
