Class Experience

Are you ready to unleash your inner artist? Join our exciting online art classes specially designed for children. In these classes, young artists like you will learn the secrets of the masters who came before us.

Every week, we will delve into the world of a renowned painting or sculptural masterpiece. Get ready to explore the fascinating history behind each artwork and the incredible artists who created them. Together, we will recreate these magnificent pieces through drawing, and you'll have the freedom to add your personal touch to your creations.

Not only will you learn about the artists and their place in history, but you'll also discover how they used the elements of art to bring their visions to life. To make learning even more fun, we'll engage in interactive games that reinforce what you've learned. We'll also dive into thought-provoking discussions to debate whether each painting deserves the title of a masterpiece, presenting arguments from different points of view.

Our lessons will be presented in an engaging audio-visual format using Keynote/Powerpoint slide presentations. You'll find the step-by-step instructions easy to follow along with. By the end of each class, you'll have the chance to showcase your artwork, if you'd like, and share your thoughts on what you found most interesting. You'll also have the opportunity to provide feedback to your fellow young artists.

Don't worry about having the perfect art supplies! You can use whatever materials you have on hand and feel comfortable with. We'll offer suggestions and guidance on how to make the most of your supplies. At a minimum, all you'll need are pencils, erasers, and paper—preferably heavier-weight paper like cardstock.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm an artist, photographer, and author from East Texas. I love to connect art with everything else in life—math, science, history, and language arts.

I've been homeschooling for 19 years and have taught children's art classes privately and through local afterschool programs. My photography has been internationally published. I also wrote a book about photography!

As a home educator with an eclectic view on teaching methods (including classical education, the trivium, Charlotte Mason, the Socratic Method, unschooling, and child-directed learning), I see the power of making connections in everything we do. Art happens to be my favorite tool to use when guiding students in making connections as well.
