1. I can use words and/ or art to describe different feelings and emotions.
2. I can begin to understand the importance and value of all my feelings and emotions.

Key vocabulary:

I am trained and qualified as a Registered Nurse and Early Childhood Teacher, with specialist qualifications in (psychotherapeutic) Play Therapy. I have over 25 years professional experience working with very young children and their families, including in trauma, mental health, disability and other related services.
There is no homework for this course. However, I will provide parents with some ideas for follow-up activities/ conversations which are optional.
- A roll of paper (kitchen) towel ($3 - $6) - Some form of non-toxic liquid dye (food colour, vegetable dye, edicol dye, paint powder) (price varies upward from a few dollars depending on your choice). - Containers (to hold liquid paints) (free - suggest using recycled plastic containers) - Droppers/ child-friendly pipettes (approx. $10 - $20) - A tray, sheet of foil or plastic tub to contain mess (use what you have on hand!).

All children, from all backgrounds and all abilities are welcome in this course which is designed to introduce every-day language and healthy ideas about living with our emotions. Children who find social cues or interactions challenging, are most welcome and catered for. If your child has particular of diverse needs in this area, please let me know ahead of time so I can learn about their individual learning and communication preferences.

Although I have a background and qualifications in Nursing, Teaching and Play Therapy (and over 25 years experience working with very young children who have additional needs) please be aware that this particular course is not a therapeutic intervention. If your child has a history of very complex trauma, or non-typical social/ language development please feel free to contact me before enrolling, and we can talk about whether this course is a good fit for your child and I can make any necessary adjustments.
