Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
This is a flex class and does not have weekly meetings. Although there aren’t live classes, students will have the opportunity for teacher support weekly through Zoom if needed. In addition, student/ teacher interaction will take place daily through a variety of discussion topics on Outschool and Nearpod, real-life scenario questions relevant to the skills covered in this class, and other activities (Quizizz, Prodigy, Arcademics, etc) to ensure high quality interaction between all participants. Students will be able to interact with each other as mentioned above during optional Zoom meetings, Nearpod critical thinking questions, discussion on the Outschool class page, Quizizz, Arcademics, etc.

Students will receive a progress report to identify and tackle any challenges. Individualized instruction and extra support are provided to accommodate all learners. With effort, success will be evident in this class.

Students will be responsible for watching videos, reviewing handouts, and completing activities and assignments weekly for each skill taught in this course. Email is an alternative option to receive responses in a timely manner. There will be posts on the classroom page to keep communication open. This course is similar to the live class, but is an alternative means for learners who cannot participate in the scheduled live classes due to scheduling conflicts, comfort level or unfamiliarity with the live version of the class. This also provides learners an opportunity to engage with the teacher and classmates through weekly guided discussions. I will provide ongoing feedback to learners and respond to questions or concerns. This flexible learning course will offer a sense of community so we can each learn from each other's observations, thinking, and experiences.

 We will:
1. Start with the easiest and work our way up!
2. Drill! Drill! Drill!
3. Repeat without Defeat!
4. Learn some cool tricks!
5. See the relationship between addition and multiplication!
6. Sing and Dance? Maybe? :)
7. Be introduced to the multiplicative identity and zero properties! Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to communicate and reason mathematically and become problem solvers. Opportunities for each student to acquire the specialized vocabulary and language of mathematics are provided in a variety of methods (video clips, notes, graded worksheets).

Week 1- What is multiplication? Learn 0,1,2,5,10,3,4
Week 2- Practice 0,1,2,5,10,3,4 and Learn 8,9,11
Week 3- Practice 0,1,2,5,10,3,4,8,9,11 and Learn 6,7
Week 4 - Practice all multiples 0-11! Check out the patterns of the 12 multiples!

Students should try to solve problems independently. Self-discipline and motivation are necessary for success. Students will be expected to watch videos, complete homework, complete quizzes, and ask/answer questions that are posted in the classroom.
