US Grade 3
Welcome to my class on 3rd Grade ELA Test Prep: Mastering Multiple-Choice Questions! In this class, we'll focus on preparing for the language arts section of the 3rd grade standardized tests by mastering the art of answering multiple-choice questions. We'll start by reviewing the state test formats (paper & online) and discussing what to do if you are taking the test virtually. We will then dive into strategies around reading and understanding the texts - identifying the genre, annotating our ideas and writing out a main idea jot to be able to refer back to. Then, we'll dive into the world of multiple-choice questions. We'll learn how to read the questions carefully, identify key words and phrases, and use the text to determine the best answer. We'll also practice different types of questions, such as main idea, inference, and author's purpose. Throughout the class, we'll use fun and engaging activities to reinforce our learning. We will be using 3 passages from the Georgia State Test practice bank. I will model one, we will do one together and then students will try one on their own. We'll also analyze our mistakes and learn how to improve our strategies for next time. By the end of the class, students will have a solid understanding of the language arts concepts tested in 3rd grade and the skills needed to tackle multiple-choice questions with confidence. They'll be well-prepared for their upcoming standardized tests and will have a toolkit of test-taking strategies that they can use throughout their academic career. Students will need a print out of the passages and questions to mark up. I will have them digitally as well but in order to best engage - this prep will be helpful! They can use a writing utensil of their choice. I often suggest a fun pen when working on test prep to make it a bit more exciting!
