Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
Make the abstract concepts of Math concrete by building it in Minecraft! Students will build arrays, reinforce math skills, learn new concepts while having fun! The success of this class comes from the super interactive Minecraft blocks, which help build visual spatial intelligence. Therefore, because there is a lot of cause and effect blocks and you can see the amounts, this class is prefect for students who have the super power of ADHD, Dysgraphia and Dyslexia.

I have been a math specialist for the last 6 years, I use a science-based approach to math. Please note, this class will have a wide range of many different abilities and levels of math facts knowledge from each of the students. Bullying or belittling of any kind will not be tolerated in this class. Students will be taught to celebrate their small or large leaps in their math journey - Learning takes time, especially in reading, writing and math. Please note: Sumyia (Ms. S) and Sherri are the instructors for this class.

Regarding Minecraft:
Each student will need a Minecraft account. Class participants will do all Minecraft building on their own personal device. Any version of Minecraft (PC/Mac computer, Minecraft for Windows10, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or other gaming consoles, Minecraft PE for iPad, Android tablets, etc.) will work for this course. The purchase of Minecraft must be made separately and prior to the start of class. Students with a few weeks of Minecraft experience through play or otherwise will have the skills needed to complete the builds in Minecraft. Minecraft is a building tool for this course (think of it as digital building blocks). The lessons and information in this course are not official Minecraft products and are not associated with Mojang.

What is NOT included:
This course will not include a group server or realm. Students can work together if their devices are compatible but partner/group projects are not required. Most learners will build in Minecraft on their own.
Learning Goals
Students will build math visuals while learning to follow patterns.
Students will learn their multiplication facts by building them.
Students will learn to be respectful when sharing about their building, arrays, structures ...etc.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am trained with applications such as: Tinkercad, Acura, 3D printing, Virtual Reality software, electric circuits, and block programming with Scratch and Minecraft.

My family members are avid Minecrafters and I am a certified elementary teacher, who often incorporated many Minecraft theme classes into my curriculum. My cousin is an architect, she was my roommate for 6 years, so I gained an inform education through her by osmosis. My husband and I built our house from the foundation up, therefore, I have a lot of practical knowledge too.
