Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Review and practice fractions in this ongoing, fun, and relaxed class. Week after week your child will build their confidence, deepen their understanding, and master fractions.

Every week we will begin with a quick 'mental warmup' to get ourselves focused and ready to go. After that, we will bring our attention to a focus topic for the session. This focus topic will cover different ways that we work with fractions. From week to week we will look at topics like:
--Adding and subtracting fractions
--Multiplying and dividing fractions
--Finding common denominators
--Equivalent fractions
--Simplifying fractions
--Improper fractions and mixed numbers
--Fractions and decimals
--Fractions and percentages

Upcoming topics:

Week of 26th May Simplifying Fractions, including Highest Common Multiples
Week of 2nd June: Finding Equivalent Fractions
Week of 9th June: Adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators
Week of 16th June: Ordering and Comparing Fractions
Week of 23rd June: Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers

We will cycle through these and related topics on a regular basis so that students have a chance to revisit and practice tricky concepts - this repetition is key to helping children retain what they learn!

After introducing the focus topic with concrete examples (using pictures and real life situations), we will use the concepts again with more abstract problems. Finally, we will end with flashcard games and practice to consolidate what we studied in the session.

Children are welcome to join the club any time. This club is most suitable for children between the ages of 9-11.

My teaching style is lively, upbeat, and encouraging. I encourage discussion and active engagement throughout the class, and keep my class sizes capped at five learners in order to allow everyone to participate fully.
