Mastering Essay Writing

In this class students will write an essay about their favorite animal.s class students will learn the main parts of an essay, how to use transition words and how to write a complete essay.
Week 1 - Parts of an Essay:  
In this lesson the students will be taught about the main parts of an essay.
The Introduction - (this part introduces the topic of the essay by using a catchy statement or a question to hook the reader)
The Body - (this part focuses on the main points of the essay)
The Conclusion - this summarizes the essay and restates your main idea
Week 2 Writing a Strong Introduction
In this lesson students will be taught how to use a hook to grab their reader's attention. Students will engage in brainstorming activities to write hooks that will captivate their readers' attention. They will learn how to write an effective introduction.
Week 3 Writing a Great Body for Our Essay
In this lesson students will use graphic organizers to help them learn to write the body of the essay. They will learn how to effectively use transition words when adding details to the main ideas as they write.
Week 4 Writing the Perfect Conclusion
In this lesson the students will continue to explore the use of transition words as they formulate an ending to their essay. They will be guided to summarize their entire essay and write a perfect conclusion that restates the main points they wrote in the essay.
Week 5 Putting it All Together
In this lesson, students will use all they have learned in the course to write a complete essay entitled, 'My Favorite Animal'. They will write their own essay with clearly identifiable main parts - introduction, body and conclusion.
