Homework
Students need to come prepared for class with their topic, main ideas, and details ready to go. If a student is not finished with the essay, they can finish at home and feedback will be given on the finished essay, however I have found most do best if they work in class. Students can take more than one week per essay if needed. If assistance is needed student can message the teacher. If parents want the students to work outside of class, they can let me know.
Assessment
Teacher will provide feedback on writing. This is done during class as they are writing or done with editing comments on the paper.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Writing is the the way you express your ideas to others. It is important to be able to write effectively. I enjoy writing and have found many students struggle with writing. If they learn the proper way to format at an essay and can utilize a graphic organizer and a word processor, it can be a much easier process. Once this is mastered you can write many different styles of essays.
We will focus an on a different type of essay, learn what makes this type of essay unique, and apply what we have learned to that type of essay. No prior knowledge is needed and students can join at anytime.

The first class a student attends, I will go over using the graphic organizer and some basic information on essay writing. I will leave a video in the classroom for anyone that is new to the class each week that missed this, as well as some information in written form for each learner as they enroll. As a student completes one essay, they will start the next essay. Although some may complete in one week, others may need more time. It is important to focus on mastering the concepts, rather than speed. Students progress through the essays at their pace, and as they come in I will help them get started. I evaluate each student as they write to decide the next essay for that student.

Each week I talk to the student about the essay the students are working on, and then students will have work time. During this time I can help anyone new to class or those that are having problems. I will provide a information to the student for each type of essay for they are working on. I will be able to see their progress as they work, I will provide a link to their google doc to type on. Students will continue working on their essays during the week if not done, or during the next class. Some students get to where they can do an essay every week, others may take a few weeks per essay. As they need help, I will assist. I can also monitor progress and offer suggestions as they work. Students are welcome to post their essays in the classroom if they wish for others to see, but it is not required. If anyone posts, only positive, constructive comments will be allowed.
Example of the normal progression of essays.
Descriptive Essay Week of June 3rd
Narrative Essay Week of June 10th
Expository Essay Week of June 17th
Persuasive Essay Week of June 24th
Argumentative Essay Week of July 1st
Process Essay Week of July 8th
Compare and Contrast Week of July 15th
Cause and Effect Week of July 22th
Reflective Week of July 29 h
This is the normal order of essays, but each student maybe working on different essays as they move through the sequence. Once they complete all the essays, they can repeat them for more practice or choose those they wish to work on.

If you are unable to find a section that works, any of my writing classes allow students to work on the different essay types, however not all students in those classes may choose to work on them. They will be working more on descriptive essays.
