Lesson 5
Basic Algebra
Introducing "variables" (what is X?) What does "equals" mean? How do I figure out X? Solving basic one step equations.
  • Review and apply key skills related to division, multiplication, and decimals.
  • Review and apply key skills related to fractions, including adding and subtracting fractions and finding the common denominator.
  • Be able to solve one step algebraic equations and to explain how to "solve for X".
  • Be able to explain the concept of an inequality, what the symbols mean related to inequalities, and to plot these ideas on a number line.
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Homework
Frequency: 3-6 throughout the class
Feedback: included
Details: Students will be provided optional skill practice packets to complete outside of class (including associated answer keys). They may submit questions for instructor support during the class window.
Certificate of Completion
Frequency: included
Details: Certificate will indicate hours completed, subjects covered, and date of enrollment.
Students should be familiar with basic four function math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). 

They need support/review with fractions, percentages, decimals. 
Students should have a paper, pencil, and four function calculator (to double check calculations, not to generate answers).
