Immerse your learner in the art of essay writing with our self-paced class, designed to provide all the tools needed for success. Students will have access to recorded lessons and comprehensive class materials, including outlines, essay examples, infographics, and graphic organizers. Though self-paced, learners will have continuous access to the instructor for guidance and feedback on their work. This class teaches students to structure paragraphs and essays, with weekly feedback to help them improve their writing skills.

𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧:
Module 1: The Paragraph
In this module, students are introduced to paragraph structure, focusing on topic sentences, supporting details, and closing sentences. They will practice identifying different parts of a paragraph and select a prompt to write and submit their paragraph. Feedback will be provided to review their work.

Module 2: The Essay
Students will learn to structure an introduction and conclusion for their essays. This includes crafting an attention-getting hook and writing a thesis statement, as well as using the 'upside-down' introduction method for conclusions. The module also covers basic outline formats. Students will be given three writing prompt options and will submit a three-paragraph essay for feedback.

Module 3: Introduction to Writing and Definition Paper
This module focuses on adding detail to body paragraphs. Students will practice structuring paragraphs with topic sentences, main ideas, and thesis statements. They will choose a word or phrase to define in their essay.

Module 4: Compare and Contrast Paper
Students will select two items to compare and contrast using formal writing. They will learn to create outlines in point-by-point or subject-by-subject formats and submit their essays for review.

Module 5: Persuasive Paper
Learners will develop skills to support claims with logical reasoning. The module introduces persuasive elements such as pathos, ethos, and logos, guiding students to write compelling persuasive essays.

Module 6: Analysis Paper
Students will learn to identify an author’s purpose by examining literary devices and themes. They will write analytical essays, focusing on critical reading and interpretation skills.

Each module includes interactive lessons, writing activities, and assignments. Students will practice their skills and submit written work for feedback. Lessons are delivered through a blend of pre-recorded videos and comprehensive written materials to ensure a thorough understanding of each topic.

Lesson 1:
The Paragraph
 Students will be introduced to the structure of writing a paragraph.
We will work on topic sentences, supporting details, and the closing sentence.
Students will practice identifying the different parts in a paragraph.
Students will select a prompt and submit their paragraph.
Assignment #1: Select one prompt and submit paragraph.
Students will receive a review on their work. 
Lesson 2:
The Essay
 Students will learn how to structure the introduction and conclusion.
Introduction: (the hook/attention-getter) and writing a thesis statement.
Conclusion:  I will teach the 'upside-down' introduction method.
Students will learn about the basic outline format.
The students will be given three options for their writing prompt.
Assignment #2: Students will complete and submit a three paragraph essay.

𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗱𝗲 (𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿):
I started my path to teaching in college when I volunteered with AmeriCorps.  I went on to teach in traditional public schools after I completed my M.Ed and received my teaching license, but I quickly learned the school environment was not the ideal setting for myself or my child.  That is when I transitioned to homeschooling and teaching online.  I have been teaching writing course for fifteen years.  My primary objective in each class is to help the learners feel comfortable and gain confidence in their writing.
