Once beginning French students master the present tense, it's time to expand their use of the language by adding more verb tenses, including past tenses like le passé composé (perfect past tense). In this class, students are going to learn when to use "étre" for the auxiliary verb and when to use "avoir," how to form the passé composé (present tense of the auxiliary verb plus the past participle of the main verb in the verb phrase), how the passé composé is used for passive voice, and how...
At the end of this four-week class, learners will hopefully feel confident that they know how to form the passé composé and use it in their conversations and writing.
I was educated bilingually in Canada all the way through university, where I graduated with an honours double major degree in psychology and French studies from a bilingual university (Université York). I've taught beginner French classes at the middle school and high school levels at a large home school co-op and also to my own four children as I home educated them for eight years.
There will be no homework, per se, but students will be encouraged to review the concepts taught each week and practice writing sentences using the passé composé.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will be providing reference notes in a document shared via the classroom.
