This is a 4-week flex course that will teach students how to master three different types of essays and how to use those strategies for standardized tests.

Lesson 1
Narrative Essays Day 1
This lesson introduces the narrative essay. We talk about characters and settings and how to describe those with descriptive language.
Lesson 2
Narrative Essays Day 2
This lesson talks about problems and solutions in our story. It goes over how to come up with solutions to problems and the different types of problems that can happen in a narrative.
Lesson 3
Narrative Essays Day 3
In this lesson we will be talking about theme and what that means for narrative essays. We will be finishing up our essays today and talk about how to conclude a narrative essay.

Persuasive Essays Day 1
This lesson introduced Persuasive Essays. We will be reading the articles that we need for this essay. We also will be going over how to write the introduction to a persuasive essay.
Lesson 5
Persuasive Essays Day 2
In this lesson we will be talking about the body paragraphs of persuasive essays. We will talk about how to structure a body paragraph using the TBEAR format (Topic sentence, background information, evidence, analysis, and return to thesis). We will write the common ground paragraph together and then students will write the next two body paragraph by themselves.

Persuasive Essays Day 3
In this lesson, we will be finishing up persuasive essays. We will talk about the rebuttal paragraph and how to respond to a counter claim. We also will talk about the conclusion of a persuasive essay and the different parts of a conclusion.

Opinion Essays Day 1
In this lesson we will introduce opinion essays. We start with a would you rather game to help students get comfortable expressing their opinion with reasons. We then move into reading a couple examples of opinion essays and talk about how to write a introduction to an opinion essay.
Lesson 8
Opinion Essays Day 2
In this lesson we break down the body paragraphs on a opinion essay. We review TBEAR and talk about how that can work for opinion essays. We also look at a new format called OREO (opinion, reason, example, opinion) and see how this format can be used for the body paragraphs. Students will then write an opinion paragraph using one of the formats and then will work on the body paragraphs for their opinion essay.

Opinion Essays Day 3
This is the last class of the course. We will talk about how to write a conclusion for a opinion essay.Students will finish their essays and for me to give them any final feedback.

Make up week
This week students will be able to catch up on essays and make sure that they have done all of their work. Send any final work for feedback or run them over with someone in your life to see how to improve your writing.
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the structures of three common types of essays and will be able to practice writing those types of Essays. They will also learn how these can be used on standardized tests, and learn how to peer review each other's essays. 
Homework Offered
This class will be done on the student's schedule so all the work will not be done in zoom meetings. Each week the students will have 3 videos to watch and 1 essay to write and submit for feedback. They will also have some interactive activities weekly where they will interact with me and other students to help learn the structure of essays. There will also be time for students to peer review each others essays.
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class

Students will need a way to write papers and submit them for feedback. This may be through google docs, another word processing program, or even writing them on paper and submitting them by picture. They also may need to be able to record videos for the interactive games such as debate the teacher. 
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
