Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
In this eight-week writing course, I will teach your learner how to write state approved 3-5 paragraph essays. We will learn how to write four essay types; informative, persuasive, narrative, and opinion. We will utilize the writing process to draft an essay, followed by editing and revising to create the perfect piece.

Each essay type will consist of two weeks of classes. In the first week, we will focus on the presentation of the essay type with different ideas. I will also model how to create the essay using an example. The remaining time students will begin working on their graphic organizer and rough draft while I am there to answer any questions. During the week, your learner's homework will be to finish up their rough draft. During the second week, your learner will bring their rough draft to class and we will all work together to make any corrections or answer any additional questions. Students can type their essays and send me, or if they prefer handwriting they can take a photo to send me on the classroom page.

Week 1: Informative Essay Draft
Week 2: Informative Essay Finalization
Week 3: Persuasive Essay Draft
Week 4: Persuasive Essay Finalization
Week 5: Narrative Essay Draft
Week 6: Narrative Essay Finalization
Week 7: Opinion Essay Draft
Week 8: Opinion Essay Finalization

My teaching style is very relaxed. I like to not only complete academic projects but also get to know your learner and create a lifelong positive learning experience. During class, my students and I will take a "Brain Break" anything ranging from rock, paper, scissors, or would you rather. I encourage students to interact with any thoughts, questions, and/or ideas they have during the class discussion. Students are also welcome to message me through Outschool's conversation page with any questions or ideas they wish to share.

The only thing students will need to have before class is the ability to write a complete sentence. In class, we will focus on building those sentences into paragraphs then followed by essays. I student taught in a public school for my college internship where we focused primarily on writing these essay types. I am eager to teach your learner how to complete four different essays.
