US Grade 7
Looking for a way for your learner to prepare for their upcoming 7th Grade Math class in the fall? Or, have they already taken 7th Grade Math and are looking for a review class before moving on to 8th grade? Well, look no further! This four week summer camp class will cover key 7th Grade Math concepts to make sure learners go in prepared. This will be a highly interactive class where learners participate throughout the entire class, in the way that they personally feel comfortable doing so. At Mind over Math, we believe that every learner should be given the opportunity to participate in ways that feel comfortable for them and promote learning and understanding, for their own individual learning style. Our classes are set up in such a way that does exactly that! We will be using the following learning tools during class: - Nearpod: an interactive learning tool that provides the teacher with real-time insights into student understanding through interactive lessons and activities - Blooket: an exciting new take on the modern classroom review game. It aims to match action with education to create the ultimate learning experience! The class is taught with the following structure: The teacher explains the concepts and discusses them with learners, presents an example, then after each example the teacher presents, the learners get a turn to try their own example on Nearpod. Once the teacher sees that learners have completed the example on Nearpod, they come back together as a group to take up the problem. They continue to go back and forth in this way for the duration of class, so that learners are always given the opportunity to try every concept learned on their own. Learners can participate by asking and answering questions out loud, through the chat, or by simply participating individually on Nearpod – however they feel comfortable and learn best. Blooket games will also be incorporated throughout the classes to consolidate learning, while having fun! **Note: learners taking this class should already be comfortable with adding and subtracting integers and rational numbers Learners will be assigned practice problems weekly for homework in order to consolidate their learning. Below in a breakdown of the topics we will cover: Week 1: Adding and Subtracting Rational Numbers - rational numbers - adding integers - adding rational numbers - subtracting integers - adding rational numbers Week 2: Expressions - algebraic expressions - adding and subtracting linear expressions - the distributive property - factoring expressions Week 3: Ratios, Proportions and Percents - ratios and ratio tables - rates and unit rates - identifying proportional relationships - fractions, decimals and percents - the percent proportion Week 4: Geometric Shapes and Angles - circles and circumference - areas of circles - perimeters and areas of composite figures - constructing polygons - finding unknown angle measures
