I believe children learn to play an instrument if they enjoy it and part of that is being able to play a recognisable song. In this beginner series of lessons students will learn the notes required to play well known songs. The emphasis in the beginner classes is on learning the song, it is not necessary to be able to read music however this is always an advantage. If your learner would like to learn to read music take a look at my new learning system 'Steps on the road to recorder brilliance'. It is recommended that learners have attended at least one class at level 1 or 2 before joining this class. This class is also ideal for learners who have completed 'Step 3 on the road to recorder brilliance', this class will give them more practice using the notes and another song for their repetoire. We will begin with introductions to each other and today's song; Mary had a little lamb. We will sing the song together, and clap the rhythm. The students will follow the instruction of the teacher and a colourful on screen presentation to learn how to play Mary had a Little Lamb. We will learn line by line, ensuring that all learners are able to play the notes. As the tune builds we will discuss the notation used in the song and talk about the note lengths, rhythms etc. Every learner will be heard individually and as a group, so the teacher can be sure that all learners have understood and can complete the tasks. Please note: playing an instrument can take time and practice. This class will teach the techniques and notes required for the tune. Some learners will have a natural ability, however for most it will take practice after class.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain different things from class depending on their previous playing and musical experience. For some they will learn new notes and learn note lengths and names. For others who have previous experience, perhaps having completed 'Step 3 on the road to recorder brilliance', this will be an opportunity for more practice and another song for their repertoire.

Supply List
Learners must have a recorder for this class. A recorder can be bought very inexpensively from most toy stores, music stores or online stores. The presentation will be posted as a PDF in the classroom after class. Therefore, a printer would be useful but not necessary.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
