US Grade 3
This third grade math review is a super fun class with a lesson and virtual games. Learners will receive a refresher on how to complete a third grade math skill and will have the opportunity for fun independent practice with virtual games. Each lesson is a stand-alone 45 minute lesson. During each lesson the instructor will utilize scaffolding techniques. These techniques will help learners master concepts by first providing a lot of support and eventually providing less support in both instructional techniques as well as course materials. The teacher will first model for students how to complete the problems, guide them to solve the problems, and gradually release them until they can complete the work independently. As a prerequisite, learners should already have a basic introduction to the concepts explored in this class. Learners can join this class at any time and we will repeat through the topics so even if learners have missed a week they can still participate as long as they have already had a basic introduction to the concepts. This class will provide learners with additional instruction and practice on the subject matter of the current weeks lessons. Week of October 17 - This week we will explore multiplication. Learners will work on multiplication fact families 1 - 12. Day 1: Multiplication 1-3s Day 2: Multiplication 4s-6s Week of October 24 - This week we will explore multiplication. Learners will work on multiplication fact families 1 - 12. Day 1: Multiplication 7s-9s Day 2: Multiplication 10s-12s Week of October 31 - This week we will explore identifying unknown numbers in multiplication problems. Day 1: Identifying unknown numbers in multiplication problems. Day 2: Identifying unknown numbers in multiplication problems. Week of November 7 - This week we will explore division. Learners will explore the relationship between multiplication and division. Day 1: Division 1-5s Day 2: Division 6s-12s Week of November 14 - This week we will explore fractions. We will understand fractions as whole objects split into equal parts and that fractions can also be represented on a number line. Day 1: Identifying Fractions and Fractions on a Number line Day 2: Fractions Equal to One and Whole Numbers as Fractions Week of November 21 - This week we will explore fractions. We will compare fractions with the same denominator and we will compare fractions with the same numerator. Day 1: Comparing Fractions with the Same Denominator Day 2: Comparing Fractions with the Same Numerator Week of November 28 - This week we will explore time and geometry and explore problems involving the addition and subtraction of time. Day 1: Time (Telling time on an analog clock and time word problems) Day 2: Geometry (Attributes of shapes and quadrilaterals) Week of December 5 - This week we will explore measurement of area and perimeter as well as line plots and bar graphs. Day 1: Measurement (Calculating area and perimeter) Day 2: Data and Graphing (Creating line plots and bar graphs) Week of December 12 - This week we will explore place value. Day 1: Place Value (Two to four digit numbers) Day 2: Rounding to the nearest 10s and 100s place Week of December 19 - This week will explore adding two digit numbers. Learners will explore adding with and without regrouping. Day 1: Adding two digit numbers with and without regrouping/carrying Day 2: Subtracting two digit numbers without regrouping/borrowing Week of December 26 - This week will explore adding three digit numbers. Learners will explore adding with and without regrouping. Day 1: Adding three digit numbers without regrouping/carrying Day 2: Adding three digit numbers with regrouping/carrying Week of January 2 - Regrouping/borrowing. Day 1: Subtracting two digit numbers with regrouping/borrowing Day 2: Subtracting two digit numbers with regrouping/borrowing Week of January 9 - This week we will explore subtracting three digit numbers. Learners will explore subtracting with and without regrouping/borrowing. Day 1: Subtracting three digit numbers without regrouping/borrowing Day 2: Subtracting three digit numbers with regrouping/borrowing 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭: Students who are not familiar with navigating more than one computer window may need adult help setting up their game prior to class or at the beginning of class. Students will receive a link to the game prior to class. Students should have their game window pulled up in a separate browser window from zoom prior to class. Students can also join the game from a separate device. -- Students that are on a tablet but only have one device can still join, however, they will be able to hear, be heard, and play during class but will not see their classmates or be seen in zoom when they have navigated to the game. Some students may need help navigating back to the zoom window on their device when they are done playing the game.
