Description
Class Experience
The learner will discover information and knowledge about Mars through hands-on experiments and activities. We will discuss what Mars looks like, and understand the importance of the rovers, and the atmosphere of Mars. The class will be structured by starting with an introduction of the material and real-life examples via videos, pictures, or discussions. Next, we will conduct the experiment. Students will comprehend information about Mars, follow directions, conduct experiments, predictions, creativity, and engineering through design.
Learners may be given websites or small videos to watch prior to class to give them prior knowledge or extend a lesson.
Mars Artwork: paper, coloring items Mars Rover: Graph paper, pencils, paper plate, assorted candy, graham crackers, toothpicks, frosting Mars Helicopter: Template, scissors, measuring tape, pencil, ribbon (optional) Astronaut Lander: scissors, cardboard (4x5 in), one 8 oz-12 oz paper/plastic cup, 3 index cards, 3 rubber bands, 8 plastic straws, tape (1 meter)
The learner will be assessed through an informal assessment of how they conduct and participate in the discussion, activities, and wrap-up.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
