This ongoing class covers the maths requirements for KS1 (UK ages 5-7) in separate lessons per topic. Your child will need to have a good basic understanding of English to get the most from this class.

Class experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Students can come and refresh their knowledge of the basic concepts of all the required areas of Maths learning in key stage 1 (UK - ages 5 to 7). These key areas cover numbers and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, simple fractions, measurement, geometry and statistics. They are delivered in separate lessons as outlined above so you can choose which areas help your child needs help with.
I have delivered maths to all age groups from primary school children (KS1 and KS2) and adults (Functional Skills Maths) for over 30 years. I have spent many years leading interventions (group work) to primary children who were at risk of falling behind in their learning. Making the classes fun helps children to learn, even the most reluctant learners. I understand that for some children, 'doing maths' is a frightening thing - fear of failure can make a child not want to try - I regularly 'make mistakes' in class to show the children that getting things wrong is fine! If they can see that adults get things wrong (and can laugh at their errors) it becomes a safe space for them.
Homework Offered
Sheets for students to work on at home will be provided where necessary to consolidate learning.
Assessments Offered
Informal assessment
Grades Offered
Learners will need squared math paper, pencil, colouring pencils, counters (for visualisation), erasers, and a ruler. Later in the curriculum, they may need to look at kitchen scales if you have any available - if not, don't worry, sheets showing these will be provided.

Welcome to my profile and thank you for visiting!

I've worked in primary education for more years than I care to think about. Yes, I'm probably somewhat older than the majority of teachers on here, but don't let that put you off. I have a...
