Class Experience

Do you like staying informed on every bit of news in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Are you looking for an environment to discuss with your peers a myriad of Marvel superheroes topics? Then this class is for you!

Every two weeks we'll go over the latest news in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes (but is not limited to) new TV episodes, reports about current Marvel content in production (TV shows, movies, video games, etc.), and our predictions for the future concerning our favorite Marvel characters.

This is a highly-interactive, discussion-based class that encourages student engagement and conversation. I will structure our discussion by going over a handful of hot button Marvel topics as they pertain to recent news, and also allow students the opportunity to bring their own discussion topics to the table. Each week's topics will be learner-directed and/or based on the most recent news and stories coming out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In each discussion I hope to touch on one or more of the following themes and concepts: story and character development, character motivations, script writing, film/TV marketing, and more. Most importantly of all, I will try to make sure every student gets the chance to voice their opinions!

Please Note:
1) This is an ongoing class, which means students are not required to join each and every week, nor it is necessary to have attended in previous weeks. In other words, each class session will have discussion topics distinct and exclusive to that week (I will post topics for specific dates), which do not require attendance at previous or future sessions. Every class stands alone, and therefore it is not necessary or required to attend for every session the course is offered. In short, students can come and go as they please! If there are any questions about this please don't hesitate to reach out.
2) Spoilers are likely for any students who have not seen or experienced certain Marvel movies or TV shows!

*I will update regularly the discussion topics for each current section in the space below. Please refer here for the latest information on what will be covered in each class. As always, if there are any questions please let me know.

- Tuesday, January 2: Happy New Year!; Marvel What If? - season 2 review and analysis; other MCU news

- Tuesday, January 16: Latest updates for for 2024 shows and films (Deadpool 3)

- Tuesday, January 30: TBD; final class!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
All of the Marvel movies are rated PG-13 -- almost always for violence and language. Themes of revenge, temptation, and betrayal are also prevalent. With that said, if you are comfortable with your child watching films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there should be nothing to worry about!
Supply List
In the days prior to each session I will post a short list of discussion topics exclusive to that given week. Please note that every class stands alone, and therefore it is not necessary or required to attend each week the course is offered.

I'm a huge fan of the science fiction and fantasy genres, and since childhood I've always loved superheroes and their stories. I've seen all of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) too many times to count, and am now excited for Marvel's foray into extended television series via Disney+. My friends and I have spent many long nights discussing and debating every topic related to Marvel and its cast of superheroes.

As a teacher, I have extensive experience in managing classroom discussions of all ages and ability levels. My goal is to ensure that every student has a chance to make contributions, provide their opinion, and/or demonstrate what they've learned.
