In this 5 day camp, students will explore the science of friction, density, dive into geography with tectonic plates, and enjoy some edible science.
Class experience
During these classes, students will use marshmallows to explore the Scientific Method! We will learn how to make educated guesses and conclusions, that would make any scientist proud!
Day 1 - Making the Ultimate Marshmallow Blaster! Learn About Friction and 3D Shapes.
Students will construct their own marshmallow
blasters. We will compare and contrast their blasters with different surfaces and learn some 3D shapes.. Who will be able to
shoot their...Sumyia - is an ultrasound technician who has a Master's degree in biochemistry. She has 5 years as a ESL teacher and builds positive learning experiences through a personalized, interactive learning method. Sumiya, is also a mom whose children are avid science tinkers.
Day 1 - 1 Tape Measure (optional) A bag of large marshmallows -Regular sized 8.5" by 11.5" piece of cardstock paper or white printer paper. Day 2 - Regular sized marshmallows Cornstarch Icing Sugar (also known as powdered sugar or confectioners sugar) Coconut Oil Food Colouring Microwave friendly bowl - recommended 32 oz/ 4 cup glass liquid measuring cup Tablespoon Spatula or fork Small bowl Cutting board - optional Day 3- marshmallows- mini or regular sized 1 cup of water 1 cup of vinegar - 1 cup of soda or acidic juice, like orange juice Vegetable oil cornstarch Pencil and paper to draw observations Day 4 - Bag of regular sized marshmallows. You can use the mini marshmallow as well. Graham crackers One plate - dinner plate is a great size. small ruler chocolate chips paper to record observation (optional) pencil (optional) Microwave Day 5 - marshmallow regular or mini packet of spaghetti 5 medium sized books tape - optional
A microwave will be used during this week, parental guidance is needed.
