Mars Explorers: Finding Volumes of Underground Lakes
Class experience
In this class, students will learn how to determine the volume of various solids. This topic will be introduced with the pretext of determining the volume of underground lakes on Mars. We will first use mathematical principles to derive the formulas for the volume of each specific type of basic solid, and then we will use those equations to derive the volumes of underground lakes of water. Interconverting units, such as cubic meters to liters, will also be covered. For each example, a student...
This class is taught in English.
At the end of this class, students should know: -how to determine the areas of basic shapes, such as triangles, rectangles, squares, and circles -how to determine the volumes of: --prisms --pyramids --cylinders --cones --spheres -how to covert cubic meters to liters
I have graduated in Electrical Engineering with a minor in mathematics. In many of our engineering courses, we had to determine volumes of structures, using integral calculus.
They need a calculator. It is preferable that this calculator has a pi button and a squaring button. Online calculators and phone apps are also acceptable. For using the Zoom whiteboard, it is recommended, but not essential, for the student to use a tablet or iPad.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Hello fellow learners! My name is Fatima, and I am a fellow lifelong learner. I would like to help inquisitive young minds learn about STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, and Mathematics). I believe that the role in education is to foster the...
