"Marooned Together!" is a wholesome and exciting series of six pre-recorded, 30 minute sessions led by the piratical Professor Billy Bones, said to be "a swashbuckling Mr. Rogers." This flexible schedule class allows children, ages 5-10, an opportunity to escape the challenges of isolation and social distancing; to follow their own independent natures and to laugh and learn along the way. An innovative combination of entertaining creative-dramatic play and curricula-based educational...
During "Marooned Together!" students will be guided to use the full range of learning styles from visual, physical, aural, artistic and manual. Learners will exercise critical-thinking skills and develop many pro-social strategies as they investigate their own expressive selves. They will be prompted to be more independent, express their emotions, to take initiative, follow creative impulses, and will be motivated to gently push themselves and strive for success. Most importantly, participants will enjoy the benefits of structured, creative-dramatic play which result in more relaxation and quality down-regulation. This is the heart and spirit woven throughout "Pirate School: Marooned Together!"
This class is designed to help foster independence, curiosity and a stronger work-ethic. As a Flex Class all work is prompted and followed by the teacher, but is fully self-directed (with occasional help from parents). Projects such as journaling, poetry, snacks and crafts are on-going and wholly elective and students may do as much or as little homework as they want. Sharing their work with Professor Bones, via email attachments, is emphasized, but not mandatory. No reading is assigned.
A detailed materials list and reference guide in pdf format will be made available. All materials will be readily found in the average home or ship.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Assessments may be requested on a case by case basis.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Pirate School classes never promote violence or anti-social behavior. Occasionally, parental help will be needed depending on the skill level of the student (using scissors, pouring food coloring, and gathering materials for example). Parental participation or support is encouraged because it's fun, but totally optional.
