US Grade 7 - 10
Class Experience
This Unit Study will explore the writings of Mark Twain, and who he was. We will read and have discussions on the book "The Adventure of Tom Sawyer" and “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. Each week students will read assigned chapters and complete activities from a study guide. We will meet once a week live to have class discussions based on the reading and guide questions. This course will last 5 weeks.

Each week the students will read roughly 10-15 chapters and answer discussion questions and activities. We will meet online once a week to discuss the chapters we've read. Students will need to keep a binder/folder that will contain their vocabulary, writings, and discussion questions.

Attached is the Study Guides we will be following with the assignments, vocabulary, and discussion questions. Students will be expected to keep up with the study guide and be ready to discuss the questions in class each week. They will also be expected to present a project at the end of the course. This class can be a graded course at the parents request. Grades would be based on participation and project. Quizzes can be provided to be taken at home upon request. I would be willing to grade the quizzes.

Parental Guidance
The era of history that is the setting of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn was a time of slavery, so the issue of slavery is present but not a focus in this story. There is a murder that character, Tom and Huck witness. In the book Huck Finn, Huck is abandoned and abused by his Pap. Again this is not a focus of the book but a part of the character background of Huck. Be sure to talk with your student as they read this book to be sure they are comfortable and dealing well with potential tough topics.
