US Grade 1 - 4
This one-time class will explore sea turtles. We will learn the 7 species of sea turtles and look at three of them in-depth, the green, hawksbill and leatherback sea turtles. We will learn about their anatomy and how they've adapted to life in the ocean. We'll also explore the life-cycle of sea turtles using our own videos of nesting turtles and emerging hatchlings. Sea turtles face a number of threats and we will learn these, alongside looking at what we can do as individuals to help sea turtles (and other marine life) - wherever we live. I will be sharing a presentation packed with high-quality photos and videos - many of which have been taken during our work in the Indian Ocean. Class interaction is embedded in my teaching style, which is informal, yet designed to create a solid scientific foundation to the knowledge acquired. There is no prior knowledge required for this class
Learning Goals
Students will learn about sea turtle species, their anatomy, behaviour and lifecycle as well as the threats they face.
