This full year science class will utilize All About Oceans Marine Biology Handbook by The Thinking Tree. All learners will be expected to purchase a copy of the handbook and bring it to class weekly. This is a fabulous way to learn with a licensed science teacher about 40 species of ocean animals, map their populations, practice vocabulary, creative writing, copy work, and sketch pictures.

Each week we will cover one species "animal facts" & "research and discoveries" page and as time allows, an art or language arts page. This workbook is an amazing resource and worthwhile investment that provides many weeks of learning. It is packed with visuals, room to doodle, and copy work, allowing every student to be successful.

Students are welcomed to join the class after our September start date. We work through each animal in the book starting from the beginning but there are so many great animals covered it's okay if you miss the beginning. Classes beginning in January run for a full year, through December, with a built-in summer break.

There will be no graded assignments. Homeschoolers, unschoolers, and afterschoolers are all welcomed! Our handbook provides hands-on structure and encourages reluctant learners who are curious about ocean animals to sharpen all of their skills. With guess in 10 games and would you rather questions, students will look forward to coming to class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Science
My teaching experience in the life sciences includes ecology, biology, and zoology. Before I became a teacher I worked with wildlife, in a microbiology lab, and also in animal welfare. I have always been called to work with children and have volunteered at girl scout camps, zoo camps and children's hospitals. As a teacher on Outschool I am committed to bringing visual and tangible content to the classroom. I believe teaching is more than just a lecture. My students learn best by seeing examples of concepts, and by breaking new content down into manageable pieces. I am always available for questions and support!
