Description
Class Experience
Class time will be structured as follows: 1. Class discussion of prior knowledge of the particular map and maps in general. 2. Teacher overview of map features. 3. Student collaboration time to solve problems. Week 1: How to read a map and using map features Week 2: Measure distances using a ruler and on screen ruler tools (Part 1) Week 3: Measure distances using a ruler and on screen ruler tools (Part 2) Week 4: Multi-step word problems with measurement and unit conversion (Part 1) Week 5:...
Students will learn how to read a map in multiple ways, including using an alphanumeric grid, cardinal directions, and measuring distance by using the map scale. While using the map, we will discuss ratios and work through multi-step word problems requiring students to measure distances on the map and convert between different units.
No homework will be assigned. Optional practice problems will be provided if desired.
Please provide paper and pencil or whiteboard and marker, as well as a ruler if you have one.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress is assessed through teacher observation throughout the lesson and an exit ticket problem at the end of each lesson.
