Latitude and longitude are used to describe the absolute location of a place. Map basics (such as these) are part of the geographical standards embedded in the National Council for Social Studies standards as well as many state standards. This class can serve as an introduction to latitude and longitude or as a refresher. I am a certified social studies teacher with over a decade of experience teaching a range of social studies classes. I have a MA in Secondary Education, with a focus on Social Science subjects. Geography is considered a social science subject, and map basics such as latitude and longitude are part of many state standards.
