Manners Are Fun! Learning good manners can be fun! What better way to learn positive behavior than to teach it yourself? That's what I'm inviting your child to do! Join me in a fun and engaging class for learners ages 3 - 6 as my animal puppet friends learn now to use good manners! This one time class will focus on a few simple manners for very young children. No reading skills will be required. My puppet friend, Bird, does not have very good manners. Can your child help me to teach him some good manners and behavior? First, we will practice using "please" and "thank you" in conversation. Learners will be given a chance to speak if they are comfortable doing so, by practicing the use of these phrases with the teacher and with one another! Next, we will learn the importance of treating one other with kindness. Bird and his friend, Ellie the Elephant, are having trouble getting along. Can your child help me think of ways that Bird can show kindness to his friend? If they wish, learners may offer examples of things they can do to show kindness to friends and family members. Bird is also having trouble learning how to share with his friends. Let's help remind him that sharing and taking turns is a great way to make friends! Learners will also learn the importance of using their words when they are frustrated or angry. Simple social skills are essential for preschool and kindergarten attendance, but also just as important for the homeschooled student and their interactions with family, friends and siblings. We will cover why it's important to listen and how obeying parents and teachers can help keep us safe! I have used my bird puppet in my online classes since 2017 and very young children really seem to like interacting with him! If your learner enjoyed playing with Bird today, he's a regular attendee in all my preschool classes! I have many preschool drawing classes such as: "Animals In Winter: A Preschool and Kindergarten Drawing and Science Class!" "D is for Draw a Dinosaur A Preschool and Kindergarten Alphabet Drawing Class" "B Is for Butterfly C Is for Caterpillar: A Pre-K and Kindergarten Drawing Class" Plus many more! You can see them on my profile page! I also run weekly circle time classes where we learn letters, numbers and different topics in science and social studies!: "Preschool Circle Time With Mrs. Kelly: Science, Social Studies and Art!"
Learning Goals
In this basic class we will cover using "please" and "thank you", treating others nicely, taking turns, sharing, listening, and using your words. As time allows, we may also cover listening well, and embracing differences.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello from beautiful northern New Jersey! I'm excited at the opportunity to continue to bring a love for learning to children after homeschooling my own children for the past 20 years. Since 2017, I have taught over 5700 classes to Chinese students ages 3 to 15. I have a BA degree in Elementary Education and English Writing (dual major) and an American Literature minor from William Paterson University in New Jersey. I have a New Jersey teaching license for grades K-8, and TESOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.
As my children grew, I did a lot of volunteer teaching which includes several years of teaching preschool/kindergarten VBS (Vacation Bible School) and Sunday school classes, as well as teaching Pioneer Girls. In each of these, I heavily incorporated arts, crafts and hands on participation into our curriculum. I also taught a Sunday school class for special needs children for five years. This experience has given me an understanding of children with learning and behavioral challenges. Preschool aged children have always held a special place in my heart in my teaching experience with VIPKID, and I have incorporated puppets, art, and a lot of humor into my online classroom with them with great results. When I can get a belly laugh out of a student online, my whole day is made! My teaching style is low pressure with lots of positive encouragement, as I strive to help every child feel that they have something valuable to contribute.
When I was 12 years old, I discovered what would turn into my lifelong passion; antiques and history. In my early teens, I devoured every book in the library that I could find about antique dolls and toys. When I grew into adulthood, I channeled my obsession into a business and since 1997, I have owned Suburban Treasure, an online antique and collectibles business. I am also a professional antique doll restorationist.
In addition, I am also a self taught artist and since 2004, have created art dolls in my studio "Spring Valley Studios Sasha Dolls". My dolls have found their ways into collectors' homes all over the world!
My childhood interests shaped my future career. I realized in my own children that I very much wanted to foster in them that same love and desire for learning. I try to carry that passion into my classroom! My heart is in preschool and kindergarten aged learners and I have discovered truly how much I love this age group as I have been teaching it almost exclusively here on Outschool!
I hope to see your child soon in the classroom!
