Manga Art- Japanese Comics- The Art of Manga 1

The Art of Manga, is about learning human anatomy, and then how Manga adjusts the proportions to make it a unique arts form. We will focus on Manga head and figure proportions- the image shown is based on 1 of the portraits learned in class.

Class Experience

Why I offer this class, is that I love to draw faces and the figure, it's what I majored in for grad school and what I do professionally. Why I offer Manga is that this is a natural continuation of what I do and what students love. I have taught Manga classes both live at the middle, high school level in the public and private setting, as well as in the museum setting. I think my ability to breakdown proportions is what e really helps students to continue on their own.

Students will receive handouts, templates, and power points as well as samples to work from. Teacher will also provide live demo's that will help students and allow them to try out the techniques in class. Students use feedback to help create Manga style comics in student's own style. Materials are basic and should not cost much as most are household items: ruler, white paper or card stock, pencils, colored pencils, sharpies in black.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
None needed this class is kept very student appropriate.
