Class Experience

This class is for students who have no background or very little background in Chinese. There is no prior knowledge needed for this class. This is NOT a Chinese immersion class. Students will be able to sing some Chinese songs, write some Chinese characters, and can ask others what they like and dislike. Students are encouraged to complete a project to share in class to apply what they have learned. There are a variety of games we will play in class to help your child learn Chinese in an interactive and fun way.

Students will be able to have a conversation on greetings, numbers, animals, insects, and everyday conversation. They can ask others what they like and dislike. I will be teaching language patterns, making simple phrases, and correcting their pronunciation and tones.

1. This is a flexible class, which means no live meetings will take place. Your learner will receive pre-recorded video lessons, which you can watch and review at any point during the week. There will be interactive-style video recordings given out per week by the instructor based on multiple intelligences. Students will also receive worksheets exercises, Quizlet exercises, and interactive practice games links throughout our lesson. Interactive practice games include matching games, Whack a mole, escape the maze and etc.

2. Students will also have the opportunity to chat with their peers and post their worksheets and a recording of their speaking practice in the classroom. Students are encouraged to complete a project to share in class to apply what they have learned.

3. Students should be prepared to verbally interact with the video. After watching the video, students are required to complete the worksheets and send a recording of their speaking practice back. They can also use the practice games I share in class each week to reinforce the mastery of the vocabulary words and making sentences. This is best accomplished with a parent and/or adult for support.

4. Students are required to post a recording each week of a weekly cumulative activity to share their progress with their peers and teacher. Worksheets and speaking practice activities will be provided each class with supporting instructions to help parents facilitate student learning. This course uses Quizlet for optional practice games and quizzes to promote mastery of vocabulary and structures.
