If your children complained about their current Mandarin Chinese is boring, too much homework, too hard to remember the characters, they are not willing to keep learning, they rejected to read books in Chinese, they feel frustrated to learn Mandarin Chinese... This class will be a new opportunity for them to keep learning. Because it's not a dry lecture telling, but it's a fun workshop with so much choices for them to practice their language skills based on learners' personal learning path. Students will learn 300 Sight characters and 100 writing characters in this semester (4 units, 16 weeks). The textbook is the same as what they are using in China for the local students. Besides the characters, words and sentences, we'll learn strokes(笔画) and Pianpang Bushou(偏旁部首) which are the fundamentals for Chinese character writing. Poems, rhythms and fun picture books will be additional resource in our class, so that we can review and practice what we've learned repetitively. We'll use Pinyin(拼音) to help pronunciation, but it doesn't our key learning goal in this semester, because they will get the Pinyin after they know 100 character really easily. That is why the classes focus on characters at the very beginning. The whole semester will be divided into 4 units, so that it makes possible to review and repeat frequently. The themes are different from each week, so consistent learning is encouraged. Unit 3 (U3) W1:小书包 My little backpack W2:日月明 Interesting Chinese Characters W3:影子 Playing with Shadow W4:比尾巴 Tail competition PS: Due to Thanksgiving break, the class date of Week 4 may change. It is a Mandarin Chinese immersion class, and will be taught 100% in Mandarin Chinese, simplified Chinese will be taught in reading and writing. Students are required to understand mandarin Chinese by listening. They are also encouraged to express themselves and participant class discussions in Mandarin Chinese during the class. Class will focus on read aloud, guided reading, sight words practicing, class discussion to enhance their overall Mandarin Chinese skills. We'll use role play, games to review and practice what we've learned. A 1-2 pages writing worksheet will be sent out as homework for reviewing after each class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been living in Beijing, one of the most authentic city in China for more than 30 years, and grew up in Hutong and kept all the customs generation by generation. I taught mandarin in Oklahoma, US for 2 years and voluntarily provided Chinese culture sharing club in the local public elementary school for 3 years. I'm passionate to work with children on Chinese cultural learning and Mandarin teaching, because it's not only full of fun for me, but also meaningful for me.
