I have a Master's Degree in Teaching Languages and have been tutoring and/or teaching since 2004. I lived in China for 4 years where I learned Chinese and my wife is Chinese so we practice constantly. I have been teaching Mandarin Chinese Boot Camps on Outschool since Late 2019.
There will be some homework the first night, setting up accounts for anki or making the flashcard system. This should take 30 minutes or so. The second night will have about 20 minutes of homework as well just to review the pinyin and tone songs. The third night is the end of the class.
1. Students will be sent a pdf packet that should be printed out before class starts, it will be thick, don't be intimidated, it's for 20 hours of learning! It will be about 30 pages long. 2. Students should either have a digital device to get Anki on(it's $25 on iOS devices but free on all other things) or index cards, tape, rubber bands, and a shoebox to make flashcards with. 3. Students will be asked to grab things from around their house they want to learn how to say in Chinese at different points throughout the course.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will continually be given informal assessments throughout the 20 hours of class time. At the end of the class if any parent requests I will be happy to assign a letter grade and provide a written overview of how their student did in the class.
20 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
