Class Experience

Mandalas are a fun way for students to play with creative self-expression.

In this class, I'll show students a simple step-by-step process to set them up for drawing their own unique mandala! With a few simple steps, students can follow the pattern to create their own masterpiece.

Once they finish drawing their mandala in pencil to get it just the way they like it, we'll outline them in sharpie, erase the extra pencil and then use watercolor to paint and add even more beautiful detail to their artwork.

Drawing mandalas is not only fun, but it is a way to practice embracing the spontaneity of design while relaxing into the rhythm of drawing you own patterns and shapes. It's a beautiful adventure and I hope you can join us!

Take the class once, or come back again and again to draw a new mandala masterpiece every time.

Hi! My name is Caitlin Sanders, and I love teaching. :) Kids are my favorite people and it is a joy to connect with them in teaching & learning each day.

**Starting Jan. 2nd, 2024, I'll be teaching online full-time so I won't have as many class times available. I will still make time in my schedule to teach classes on Saturday mornings and some weekday evenings as I'm able to -- so feel free to reach out with any requests! I'll be happy to try to accommodate you!**

I have a passion for storytelling and love to combine stories, nature, and writing into my thematic and engaging classes.

I believe every child has a unique perspective and a unique voice that deserves to be heard. In my classes I help students uncover this through reading stories and by supporting them in writing their own.

I also love nature and so I often incorporate nature into my classes as well. :) Nature has a magical way of helping us to connect more deeply with ourselves and with those around us.

I have a compassionate approach to teaching and learning...and, to life! This comes across in my classes as patience, a genuine caring, and a dedication to supporting each student in a way that builds their confidence and unique sense of self so they can shine and bring their truest, most authentic selves and experiences to the world.

I truly care about every child I teach. I love using music to enhance my classes, and encourage students to discover and express their own creativity.

I grew up in Iowa City, IA and currently live in Portland, OR. I have an adorable little dog I fell in love with when I went to the shelter looking for a big dog. Turns out, I was destined for this cute little ten pound guy instead! :) We enjoy training and learning new tricks, as well as peaceful, awe-inspiring walks through the woods where we have many adventures on the trail!

The following quotation by Holocaust survivor Jay Sommer was at the the heart of my mission as a public school teacher and I continue to carry it forward in everything I do:

"Inspiring students with a sense of their own worth gives them the confidence to express themselves more freely, to explore and learn through their mistakes, and to regard learning as an adventure."

It is such a joy to now bring that passion and enthusiasm to connect with students online. :)

I'd love to work with your child to inspire them with a sense of their own confidence and creativity, abundance and longevity in the world. I believe your child deserves the very best, always.
