Class Experience

School anxiety is a common issue that many students deal with today.  There are several symptoms that could be linked to anxiety in the class. This class will be a collection of strategies to help learners pause and find ways to manage anxiety inside of the classroom.  School anxiety is a condition that can affect students of all ages. It manifests as an excessive fear of school and the activities associated with it, such as making friends, speaking in public, or taking tests. With practice, we can train our brain and nervous system to remain calm in certain situations. So come prepared to learn some amazing strategies to add to your tool kit. 


The goal of this class is to help students learn how to calm down with specific strategies that can be helpful strategies that are research-backed for anxiety. 

Topics covered in class will include: 

-Mindfulness practices to cope with anxiety and strategies to use when anxiety arises in the classroom 
(strategies such as breathing techniques, mindful observation and journaling prompts) 
-Understanding the emotion wheel to explain feelings to parents/ adults around 
( using the emotions wheel to explain emotions better) 
-Strategies for the night before school/ morning of school. 
( night/ morning routine ideas) 


The structure of this class will be as follows: 
60-70% - Lesson 
30-40% - Questions/ Discussion/ Wrap- up

As a mental health professional and educator, my goal of each class is to simply teach on these topics in ways that will be engaging to the learner. 

No past information or prerequisite classes are required.

Parental Guidance
The intention of the class is not to elicit reports personal experiences with mental health from learners. If the learned begins to share any personal mental health concerns I will kindly ask the learner to refrain from further discussion in front of the class and to continue the conversation with a trusted adult. If a learner ever shares something that is concerning, I will reach out to parents after class depending on the context of the information Note: Review Outschool's Community Standards before class to ensure that learners remember to keep personal information private.

My educational background is in Mental Health Counseling (M.S). As a therapist, I have 8 years of experience working with teens as it pertains to mental health strategies and tools. Additionally, I have completed child development and brain development research and worked as a certified educator. I am immensely passionate about teaching youth about mental health and have completed years doing so as a therapist and educator. Due to my background and expertise I will be able to teach this topic from a developmentally appropriate point of view. I have spent years creating age appropriate mental health content for teens and have a true passion for the field of mental health.
