Class Experience

Welcome to “Mammals of Africa!” Get ready for a deep dive into Africa’s most interesting mammals. This is the second of a series of my one time lessons teaching about different mammals of Africa. They do not need to be taken in order. The part 1 lesson has 6 mammals and a bit more information about the landscape/geography of Africa. Part 2 has 8 mammals and less information about the landscape of Africa, since it was covered in part 1.

To begin, we will review what classifies a mammal and geographical information about Africa to make sure all students have a solid foundation. We will be reviewing eight amazing animals that can be found in Africa. The animals that will be introduced are: Zebras, African Elephant, Colobus Monkey, African Wildcat, Grant’s Gazelle, Serval, Bush Baby (Galago), and Warthog. We will discuss fun facts, habitats, endangered vs. vulnerable, food, and other fun facts! There will be time for student discussion, reactions, and questions. I will be assessing each student’s learning progress throughout the class by discussion and questioning. Class will be structured, but flexible to adjust to each student’s needs. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or requests.

This class is an overview/introductory class to allow your student to be introduced to the wildlife of Africa. My hope is that your student will walk away ready to do their own research and see how many more interesting animals that they can find.

**This class overlaps with my Interesting Mammals of the World Flex class and my Mammals of Uganda Flex class, so please double check the animal list if your learner has taken those classes***

Welcome! My name is Kristin, and I am so excited to meet your learner(s)! I am a certified teacher with a B.S. Ed. in Early Childhood Education and in Special Education. I have many years of both classroom teaching and online teaching experience. Outside of Outschool, I am a business owner and I was a horse riding instructor. My philosophy of teaching is not just imparting knowledge to the learner. Instead, I believe that it more important to inspire learners to love learning, while imparting new knowledge. It is the love of learning that will drive a person to grow, succeed, and inspire others. My classroom is a safe place for all learners of all abilities. I am very experienced in accommodating the needs and preferences of each learner. As a teacher, it is my job to make sure that all students are learning, encouraged, and successful in my classroom. As a teacher, I have taught all classroom subjects, therefore, I have a variety of class options. My focus is on literature, life skills, nature, history, and geography. Beyond teaching, some of my personal passions include horseback riding (English and Western styles), reading, playing guitar, dancing, training dogs, learning new languages, and traveling. What is your learner’s passion? I love to be able to incorporate students' interests into their learning experience. I am always open to hearing your feedback, ideas, and preferences. I hope to see your learner(s) soon!
