This course is designed to help children to practice their conversational Malayalam while learning the basics. I am a fluent, native Malayalam speaker. This class will offer a lot of interaction between students and teacher. Students will be corrected in pronunciation and will be working towards bettering and increasing their proficiency. Each class is structured in the following way; We greet each other with 'Namaskaram' We ask how are you doing to everyone in class? (We take turns to ask each other.) We discuss about the days' weather. Children are the given time to share anything they want to share with the teacher or their friends. We begin our class with a round of warm up questions just to brush up the topics we have covered in our classes. (Since this is an ongoing class each week we have something new to discuss but we always make it a point to revise all that we have learnt so that any new student who join us do not miss out on the topics covered.) We revise counting and saying the name of the days of the week. If time permits we play the game called, can you guess what's in my hand'? (This helps students to use a lot of adjectives and they try to describe the thing to their friends and all of us try to guess it correctly.) We wrap up our class by saying 'nanni'. We cover different vocabulary including: introductions, greeting, weather, colors, numbers, fruits and animals. Here are a few topics that we would be conversing and practicing. All About Me We will learn to greet each other, introduce ourselves, start a conversation and share opinions. It’s Family Time We will learn to introduce our family members in Malayalam. Here the children will not only learn the terms for Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Uncle, Aunt etc. in Malayalam but will also be introduced to the pronouns and the changes in the sentences depending upon their gender. It’s time to Party While we have lot of fun going to a party, will learn to identify the colors and count in Malayalam. Let’s go Picnic While having a fun day at zoo, we learn the names of different animals and also discuss what makes a picnic so much fun. My Body We learn to identify various body parts and how do they help us in our daily lives. Transportation We learn to identify different modes of transport and how we can zoom around the world in them. My Emotions We learn about expressing ourselves when in different moods. (santhosham, sangadam, deshyam etc) What’s my Hobby? We talk about different activities that we like to do, what interests us in doing the activity etc. What’s in our neighborhood? We learn to talk about our neighborhood, what do we see around? Who are the people who help us in our community etc. A famous Malayalee We discuss about musicians, players, chefs, politicians and discuss their contributions and achievements Your favorite toy Children get to bring their favorite toy to class and discuss what makes it their favorite toy. Seasons (Ritu) We discuss the 4 seasons namely vennalkalam, mazhakalam, sharadkalam and mannukalam. Domestic Animals We discuss about 'valarthu mrigangal'. Food We discuss about the awesome malayalee cuisines like idily, dosa, puttu, idiappam, aapam etc. This class gives a great opportunity to interact and speak about a variety of things around us and that we do and use in our daily lives.
