This course was created in response to earning a spot on a volleyball team, but the things taught in this class are applicable to all sports. Learners are encouraged to come with questions and ideas about what is expected of them as they make the step up into high school sports. They will learn how to make themselves stand out in tryouts, even if they are not the most skilled players. Sports are such a valuable experience and are a great way to learn accountability, discipline, and teamwork. We will be discussing why these things are important and how they can accomplish them.
Learning Goals
Learners will get to hear from a former coach's perspective what is expected of them when trying out for high school sports. They will learn that there are many factors besides skill that coaches are looking for in their athletes. We will be discussing how to be good teammates, how to improve ourselves to try again if we don't make the team, and tips for getting through tough practices using mental toughness. By the end of the class, learners will have a better understanding of the dynamics of high school sports and how they can give themselves the best chance to make the team and be successful.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I was a three-sport athlete in high school and have also been a junior high girls volleyball coach. As a coach, I knew how to prepare the athletes for stepping up to the high school level. As a player, I had a lot of experience with several different coaches and have a good understanding of what is expected of a high school athlete.
