Class Experience
As they learn through videos each week, students learn how to quickly and easily make finished mazes. Using The Seltzer Method technique, they will find themselves launched into a new world of creativity and artistic exploration! Each week, when their schedules allow, students watch the lessons and are given exercises to complete. Each student must upload at least one maze from their assignment. They may require a parent's help to do so. The teacher, Jerry Joe Seltzer, and fellow students will then be able to attempt each others' mazes and give feedback. Discussion is closely monitored to keep conversations positive and on topic. In week 1 we get to know the tools and techniques. In the second week we take out mazes up a level. They get bigger and more complicated. In the third and fourth weeks we add new elements and objectives beyond simply exiting the maze. Throughout the course, we WILL be uploading our mazes for others to print out and complete. So, you will need a working printer and the ability to upload images. Along the way we build confidence and develop a new skill that can be shared with friends and family!
Other Details
Supply List
Students will use paper and pencil. They will also need an eraser, but not a fancy one. The pencil eraser is fine. Finally, they will need a fine tip marker or pen. The best choice is a fine tip Sharpie pen. However, if that is not at hand, most other ink pens will suffice.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught the Making Mazes class here on Outschool since the beginning. It has been very popular with students and has never stopped being fun for me either. Many students have wished the class could be multiple weeks. That is why this new flex class was developed.
