Making Magic with Masks; A Theatrical Experience

In this SUMMER CAMP students will combine their love of arts and crafts and playing pretend. We will craft masks and then create characters to match.

Homework
1 hour per week. Students should only work on materials in class. They may however brainstorm ideas and design masks in a notebook or on a separate piece of paper. Students should have all crafts supplies ready before each lesson.
Assessment
Students will be assessed through participation, growth in ideas and level of creativity.

Class Experience

Making Magic with Masks is all about combining the two loves of arts and crafts and playing pretend. In this 4 day camp students will learn about character building and the history of masks in theater. Each week the students will build a new mask and the spend the rest of the class to create a character and perform a small monologue. 
We will start each class with a theme for the masks. The students will have the first 15 minutes to create their mask. They will spend another 15 minutes creating their characters and short scenes/monologues. The last 15 minutes will be performing their scenes and monologues, analyzing what we learned in class and preparing for next weeks lesson.

Class 1: Comedy and Tragedy
-The History of Theatre Masks
-Build a comedic or tragic mask
-Create a small monologue using your mask
*Students need cardboard with a clean front and a drawing utensil. 

Class 2: Animals
-Build Animal Masks
-Create Monologues about "The life of a ?"

Class 3: Super Hero's and Villains
-Build Masks
-Create a class scene 

Class 4: Mystical Creature
-Build Masks
-Create a short story about your creature

 *More details and instructions about assignments will be given in class.

Supply List
As a teacher, I am big on Reduce,Reuse, Recycle. When I teach this class in art centers I like to use things from the recycling and from the store to build our masks. Here is a list of items you may use for class. You do not need ALL of the items. 
-Cereal boxes/cardboard
-Crayons/colored pencils/markers
-Paint
-Printer paper/construction paper
- Sparkles / Pipe cleaners/ tissue paper/ buttons
-Glue!

Feel free to use your imagination!!!

Playhouse Studio l.l.c. is an Online Theatre Studio founded by Ms. Amber (Amber Voeller). Playhouse Studio is for aspiring artists to discover their love for singing and acting in the comfort of their own homes!

We are passionate about creating a safe space for Young Artists. The Performing Arts is a freeing place for many and we thrive off of seeing students being their complete selves, even if playing someone else. We encourage our students to strive for excellence. Ms. Amber is am an actress, singer, performer, and Outschool Teacher. She trained at Huntington University School of Arts to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance. When she's not on stage, she has been teaching young artists throughout the world in person and online. She has taught overseas,  for American theatre companies and after-school programs in hopes to keep spreading the positive benefits of participating in the performing arts. Now she is so happy to expand her online teaching and curriculum with you all with Playhouse Studio!

When it comes to teaching Theatre Online We have 3 main goals.
