Class Experience

This is a project based class series where students will learn by making projects and learning concepts and vocabulary. The teacher will coach students through a comprehensive online curriculum. The class is taught using a licensed online platform (student licenses are included as part of the class fee).

***If your child already has experience on Python, please do not register for this class***

What will be taught?
Students will learn to code using script in the Python Coding language, which is used widely by companies such as Netflix, Facebook, Dropbox, Microsoft.
This series is broken into individual lessons and is taught on an online platform outside of Outschool.

Week #1- Intro to the curriculum, accessing the platform, learning how to navigate our interactive curriculum. Lesson 1.
Week #2 -Feedback on project for lesson 1 and instruction for lesson 2.
Week #3 -Lesson 3 and Big project feedback.
Week #4- Lesson 4 and big project.
Week #5 - Lesson 5 and final project. Kahoot game and review.

How is the class structured?
Well will use a well rounded curriculum to learn using step by step instructions. We will use an outside platform which is included as part of the class fee. Students do a big project at the end of each class. This series is part of my pathway to Python certification series which is 10 levels.
Students may be required up to 1 hour per week of homework outside of class. The teacher will be available for questions or help in between classes.

How do I teach?
During our one hour class, we will complete one lesson and a big project using the knowledge learned in class.
What's my teaching style?
I am fun, talkative, and engaging. I love having fun and asking my students to participate if they are comfortable doing so.
How much will learners get to interact with you and each other?
Students will not have access to the chat option. All participation is done using the 🎤 mic. Students will be able to view each other’s projects in our curriculum platform.

****Students with prior experience do not do well in a learning environment as we focus on learning concepts through a learning platform starting with the bare basics**** If your coder already knows Python well, this class is not for them.

Any required experience or knowledge learners need?
Coders must have basic knowledge of Scratch or other block coding.
This class is best for coders ages 10 and older.

***This level 1 class is a prerequisite in order to take my level 2 or higher classes.***

Learning Goals

At the end of this 5 class series, students will have a basic understanding of the coordinate plane, ordered pairs, sprites, objects, backdrops, and how to use them in Python.
Students will also be ready for my level 2 series to continue their pathway to becoming certified in Python.
