💬 Join in on the fun and take your turn sharing how your week was or any topic that is interesting to you right now. From the latest show series to new music we love, we facilitate connection through conversation. Each of our groups manage conversation gently to ensure everyone is heard.

🦄 As the masterminds behind the class, we will kick off each session with a round table on weekly interests and conversation prompts to keep the chat flowing. But, hey, if the group wants to switch things up and chat about unicorns or UFOs, we are all ears! 🛸

🎲 And once we've exhausted our chat meters, we'll dive into a group activity. Think Gartic Phone, Pictionary, Guess the phrase/word, Scenario, 20 Questions and sharing what we like to play. ✏️
🚊 We believe in celebrating neurodivergent joy! Info dumping, special interests and stimming are all a part of this group. 📚
🥳Come and join the fun!🥳

📌 As this is a social group that is learner led with no curriculum, videos will not be shared with families to protect learner privacy. 📌

🟢 Please message me to let me know if you have other ideas for focused or themed social clubs! 🟢

☑️ We are ESL Friendly, CEFR Level B and C. ☑️

🔔This group is trauma informed. That means we don't play around with potentially traumatic topics including murder and violence. All topics are welcome for discussion but trauma will not be our party theme. This includes murder mystery games. Thanks for understanding this effort to provide a safe space (in a short time) for all. 🔔

Learning Goals

Social classes satisfy BC’s curriculum/BC Ministry of Education for K–12 around communication studies through: acquiring and presenting information; focusing on intent and purpose in delivery; and connecting and engaging with others.

Other Details

Learning Needs
We are a Neuroaffirming Organization! We support learners with different needs and meet them where they are at. In our social groups, we can read out the chat, we can scribe and we keep the class together and don't use breakout rooms.
Parental Guidance
This is a facilitated, not an instructional class. There is no content on "How to Make Friends". This is a social space where learners are encouraged to share things that are important or interesting to them. This class is designed and delivered to support learners in achieving a high school diploma. By engaging in communications studies using an online platform, learners can engage with audiences and cultures that they may not otherwise be able to access. The online classroom enhances the learner’s opportunities to consider diverse perspectives, acquire information and present information for many purposes and audiences. The following are examples of competencies that are developed and supported in this classroom. Connecting and engaging with others Students engage in informal and structured conversations in which they listen, contribute, develop understanding and relationships, and learn to consider diverse perspectives. This facet of communication is closely linked to the building and sustaining of relationships at home, at school, in the community, and through social media. Focusing on intent and purpose Students communicate with intention and purpose. They understand that communication can influence, entertain, teach, inspire, and help us make sense of the world and our experiences. They recognize the role the audience plays in constructing meaning, and they make strategic choices to help convey their messages and create their intended impact. They draw from a range of forms, media, and techniques, monitoring and adjusting their approaches and assessing their effects. Acquiring and presenting information Students communicate by receiving and presenting information. They inquire into topics of interest and topics related to their studies. They acquire information from a variety of sources, including people, print materials, and media; this may involve listening, viewing, or reading, and requires understanding of how to interpret information. They present information for many purposes and audiences, and their presentations often feature media and technology. - From BC’s curriculum/ BC Ministry of Education for K-12. Please ask us if you’d like detailed competencies based on your learner.

I'm cool with awkward moments and silence. Growth happens in discomfort. I leave space for connection. I do make sure everyone gets a turn to speak, keep things safe, and as much as possible, I try to stay out of the way.

This is a learner driven class. They are getting to know new people. I often don't know what they are talking about, and don't plan on keeping up with trends. I'm curious when I can be, but I know enough to back off if the group is connecting over something that I've never heard of. They aren't here for another adult perspective.

I see their strengths. Every person has value to offer and I am passionate about making an open space for learners to share and connect.

I laugh at all the jokes 😉
