Class experience
We created this group to assist learners who need a very small group. Facilitating communication through using typing in chat, reading aloud for those who cannot read the chat and including those who have difficulty joining the conversation. We assist in clarifying language and making sure everyone has time to speak. We keep all activities such as social ice breaker games on the Zoom platform using the Whiteboard and just talking about the things we are interested in. Join in on the...
Students will practice conversation in a supportive environment. This class fullfills the expectations of the BC Gov't Curriculum around communication. Connecting and engaging with others. Students communicate with intention and purpose. Acquiring and presenting information.
Carly has been running inclusive and supportive social groups for kids for over 10 years. With her Bachelor's of Child and Youth Care, with early childhood education specialization from the University of Victoria, she has years of experience coaching the anatomy of conversation and is constantly learning about humans. Carly coaches all of instructors in the methodology of this class to provide consistency. Yvonne is a musician with a BMus from McGill University who has been leading social groups on Outschool with Carly since August 2022. As an ND parent with ND children, I understand the challenges that face learners with different communication styles.
This class is intentionally created to support the social needs of learners who are needing extra support with communication. We keep this group very small to make sure everyone has a chance to share.
This is a facilitated, not an instructional class. There is no content on "How to" make friends. This is a social space where learners are encouraged to share things that are important or interesting to them. Practice is the best learning. Learners are invited to co-create our meetings. Bring your ideas and passions to class. This group is trauma informed. That means we don't play around with potentially traumatic topics including murder and violence. All topics are welcome for discussion but trauma will not be our party theme. This includes murder mystery games. Thanks for understanding this effort to provide a safe space (in a short time) for all. Occasionally we use external websites to play games.
Learners who join this community will experience spaces where they can be themselves, learn cool stuff, do interesting work, and meet fun people. We are an organization of homeschooling parents, unschoolers and teachers who work as a team to...
