Class Experience

In this one-week makeup class, inspired by "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," the learners will create a Peanuts character.
Students will create their own character for a role drama adventure and learn about creating comic strips through the creation of their own comic strip and acting it out.
In this one-time class, the learner will draw their character and bring it to life through first-person roleplay creative drama!
***We are NOT putting on a production of Charlie Brown the Musical, but instead are exploring the world of Charlie Brown through singing, acting, and dancing!

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Sarah Gordin and I am an Arts Educator with experience in performance (acting, dance, and music) and am a theatre director and choregrapher. I have taught at multiple organizations working with young people ages 3-18 including The Rose Theater in Omaha, Nebraska, Gas Lamp Players in New Jersey, Broadway Workshop in New York City, Camp Deeny Riback in New Jersey, and The Civic Theatre of Allentown, PA. I am a director and have directed and choreographed Shrek Jr. with 40 children! I have also co-directed a digital production of Frankenstein which gained international attention. The production was performed again at Dramebaazi, a theatre festival based in India. At this festival, I also taught and worked with students in India, ages 11-16, to devise a production about the children's time in quarantine, as well as was a guest instructor at the Festival and taught a Creative Drama class for ages 5-10. I have graduated from Muhlenberg College (one of the top Theatre BA programs in the US) with an Acting/Directing degree. I have also attended the National Theatre Advanced Directing Intensive at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center! I have also studied at the Theatre Academy of London. Currently, I teach theatre/dance at an elementary school in North Philadelphia as an AmeriCorp member.

I love to teach. As a young person, I was incredibly shy with lots of speech problems. Through getting involved with theatre at age 10, I was able to find my voice. I believe that having and utilizing that voice is powerful and important, especially for young people. In my classrooms, I lead with kindness and empathy and strive to create a classroom where all students feel heard, safe, and appreciated. Through my teaching, I also create leadership opportunities for students to collaborate and take a more active role in the class. As an advocate of Theatre for Social Change, I believe that every child from any identity background can benefit from theatre education. I am committed to practicing anti-racist pedagogy in my teaching practice. As a teacher, I bring in my background as a musical theater performer and a director, and have trained extensively in acting, dance, voice, and directing.
