What's included

8 live meetings
6 hrs 40 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Optional: Students can work on their comics in between class times, as well as during class. If they want to have comics that more than a few panels in length (which is basically just a comic strip), they would need to work on it between class times. (See ITINERARY section above.) I am available in between classes if any students have any questions and give feedback. They can either send me a private message on Outschool or post their question on the Outschool page. If they have comic panels that they would like me to look at, they can send me those as well. While classes are normally 50-55 minutes, I am willing to stay on Zoom sometimes after class if a student needs help with their comics.
Assessment
The teacher will provide verbal feedback in class. If they need any assistance with their panels in between class times, the teacher will also provide short written feedback to students.

Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
In this 8-Day (or 8-Week) class, students go through the entire process of developing a comic or manga. Students will create (write & draw), edit, color and publish a comic story or comic strips of their own design in the "Cartoon Avenue" comic magazine.

The course focuses on both the creative writing and illustration aspects that professional comic book creators use in making their own comic books. Artwork will be done on paper, then scanned and edited on computer. (If student has a computer tablet and wishes to use that instead, let me know prior to class.)

The students would receive a box of their own printed comics after the class is over.

OLDER KIDS can take a similar class here on Outschool. Visit my profile or message me to learn more about the class.

This class covers the fees for the student's printed/shipping of comics. USA Students would receive at least 30 "Cartoon Avenue" comic books featuring their comics in them (and a cover, if they choose to make one).
๐Ÿ“ข PLEASE NOTE: Due to the high cost of shipping to foreign countries, learners in this class from outside the USA will get 9+ comic books instead of 30.
๐Ÿšš SEE BELOW for comic book printing schedules.
The comic magazine would feature comics made by everyone in these classes. They would be printed/published in a magazine called "Cartoon Avenue", which publishes comics and artwork created by thousands of kids at schools and community centers.

โš ๏ธThis is a LIVE class and is NOT pre-recorded.
This class will be presented via cameras from the instructor, as well as through screen sharing. That way students can be able to observe step-by-step what the instructor is doing. Students can interact with the instructor, as well ask questions during instruction.

Students are expected to communicate with the teacher. Communication, visuals, and hands-on instruction are all the things that are important in helping the students get a better understanding of the subject.

Comic stories can be no larger than 25 panels (or 2 pages), as they are sharing the comic magazine with other students. They can also design their own cover, if they want. If they don't design a cover, the cover art would be designed by other student(s).
โžค For a more pages, the learner will need to take the regular publishing class: https://outschool.com/classes/make-publish-your-story-comics-or-poems-w-pro-book-printing-delivery-89vbTv9R?usid=fF9cKM18&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link
