Throughout this one-week camp, members learn how to use loops, software instruments, MIDI devices, and audio interfaces to record and produce music in the digital audio workstation called Soundtrap.

Class Experience

Please double check the scheduled sessions. Some sections of this camp are over the course of 2-4 weeks. 

Throughout the four sessions in this camp, learners observe and experiment with important music production tools using Soundtrap. Soundtrap is an affordable/free digital audio workstation that is great for beginners due to its user friendly configuration. The skills learned and practiced are music production skills that are transferrable to other more professional softwares.

Learners will be able to use Soundtrap to record, track, and mix MIDI and audio.

Each learner will be asked to create a project to present on the last day. It is ok if this project is incomplete. I do not grade art, so this project is intended to encourage creativity and provide an opportunity for feedback. This will be assigned on the first day so members can experiment with new concepts and ask questions as they arise.

Learners are welcome to use any other recording gear or instruments for their projects. We will discussing MIDI devices on day 2 and audio interfaces on day 3.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:Soundtrap

3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.

A temporary Soundtrap for Education code will be provided in the days approaching the start of camp. Once inside Soundtrap's main website page, you will click on the tab across the top which says "Education" and type in the code. This will ensure your learner is using the format of Soundtrap that complies with COPPA and FERPA. All temporary accounts will be deleted after camp and it will be up to the learner's parents or caretakers to create an account they may use. The learner will have to export any desired projects from the Education account at the end of our last session. Please reach out to me or visit soundtrap.com for more information.
