Students will not be assigned homework due to the nature of the ongoing class structure however, students will be encouraged to review material taught and continue to play the associated math games to further build their math skills and understanding outside of class time.Assessment
Students will be assessed on an ongoing basis throughout each individual class. In doing so this will enable me to evaluate the level each learner is at and be able to alter lessons as we go in order to ensure each child has the appropriate level of understanding in addition to getting the most out of each class. Informal evaluation will occur through asking questions and prompting students to respond. Student responses in math games as well as through checks for understanding throughout each class will also make of components of informal assessments.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten
Advanced Level
Students who are advanced in their kindergarten math skills but not yet ready for 1st grade style learning will be engaged and challenged in this twice weekly ongoing math class. Each week students will be engaged in a different math skills relevant to the theme of the month! Difficulty will continue to build as the weeks progress into the school year following curriculum based pattern however, each lesson will be focus on a different math skills independent of each other. Students will be encouraged to dress up relevant to the theme of the month and engage in a variety of games and handouts in order to build a love and understanding of math. Weekly, learners will practice math skills to set them up for success in their future 1st grade math work. This class meets twice a week; we will cover different material each week. Additional worksheets relevant to the focus of each week will be posted the day before the class occurs in addition to any specific materials needed (ex. crayons, pencil, etc) Please note that we will not focus on early kindergarten skills in this class (ex. counting to 10 or number identification) and learners should already be able to do so comfortably before enrolling. Weekly Lesson Topics: November 23rd - telling time to the hour and half hour November 30th - introduction to money December 7th - adding 2 digit numbers December 14th - patterns December 21st - telling time to the quarter hour December 28th - addition with money January 4th - subtracting 2 digit numbers January 10th - telling time to the minute January 17th - 2D vs. 3D Shapes January 24th - skip counting (2s, 5s, 10s) Jan 31st - Making predictions + Introduction to Multiplication (1 and 2) Feb 7th - Probability Feb 14th - Measurement - Area Feb 21st - Measurement - Length + Perimeter Feb 28th - Counting Backwards The class will cover (not all included each lesson) a mixture of the following kindergarten math skills including but not limited to: - introduction to coins and money - adding - subtracting - counting to 20 - time - 2D vs 3D - Patterning - Graphing and Introduction to probability **NOTE: This is an ongoing class and you are able to join in at any time! *
Learning Goals
Students will work towards gaining confidence, understanding and efficiency in kindergarten math skills. Each class will focus on different, grade appropriate math skills as students work improving their abilities in topics such as being able to count to 100, number sequencing, comparing values, counting backwards, telling time and many more. As the topic addressed will change each week, the learning goal for each week will vary slightly based on the specific topic however, in general the learning goals of each class include gaining confidence and understanding in kindergarten math skills.
Other Details
Supply List
Students will require a pencil and coloured pencils, crayons or markers for each session. Handouts will be posted 7 days prior to class in the classroom to be printed and brought to class. Each week a message will be posted in classroom with a reminder about the handout(s) for the week as well as if any additional materials are needed.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, honors specialization in fitness and exercise prescription. Additionally, I have had significant experience teaching preschool and elementary math to children as a traditional and non-traditional educator, both in group and private tutoring settings.
