New York Teaching Certificate in Special Education
Hello! My name is Lorraine and I absolutely love being a teacher! My masters degree is in Special Education which has allowed me to teach some of the most impressive humans on this planet!

As a certified teacher PreK-6th Grade, I have lead classrooms for over 15 wonderful years. I truly enjoy my current role as an Early Intervention Specialist and Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) for toddlers and preschoolers. I also worked for 15 amazing summers at a day camp where I was a Creative Arts Specialist creating curriculum and teaching Nature, Jewelry and Cooking programs for campers ages 3-13. I also present STEM/STEAM classes at libraries, museums and after-school programs. One of my super powers is making adaptations and accommodations so every child can participate in the classes I offer for maximum fun.

My philosophy on teaching and learning can be summed up in one word "PLAY!" Through play, kids develop physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially. There's evidence-based science to back that up. How fun those studies must have been! My class offerings reflect both my play philosophy and topics I personally enjoy learning about. The arts and sciences are my favorite to teach and learn about because there are new creations and discoveries at every turn. Eureka moments can happen to anyone, anytime and anywhere!

A little more about me: I'm a big fan of ice cream, taking nature hikes to study plants, animals and insects along the way, finding lots of cool & creative ways to reduce/reuse/recycle and reading mystery books. Often, I sing to myself as a strategy while doing not-so-fun tasks to make the time go faster. I am so happy to be an instructor on Outschool and looking forward to seeing you in one of my virtual classes!
