US Grade 12
In this course, students will learn how to focus on important events or ideas that can become the centerpiece of their college essay. They will learn important, unspoken rules--what to do and hwat not to do--to help them navigate the terrain of college recruitment, and they will leave with at least an outline and at most a fully-written draft. We'll focus on voice/tone, formal vs informal, thematic focus, writing goals, and the "dos and don'ts" of writing to a college recruitment team. After this one and a half hour course, you should feel confident about your essay, and you may even have drafted most of it!
Learning Goals
Students will self-assess to determine important themes for their essay.
Students will brainstorm various ideas.
Students will practice and reject various sentence structures to find a style that feels authetnic.
Students will write portions of their letter with guidance
