Do you love comic books? Join Comic Book Camp and learn to draw and write your own! No previous comic book making experience required. Every week our class will breakdown into the following sections: - Check-in: Each learner gets the opportunity to share something special. - Reading Session: We get to read a noteworthy comic together! - Context Clues: We discuss how the comic fits in to the history of the art form. - Create your Comic: We get to make our own comics! - Gallery Session: We share our comics with our peers. Here are the themes we will be exploring each week: Week of July 7th & 9th: Origins of the Comic Book: What is Sequential Art? Week of July 14th & 16th: Golden Age of Comics: What is Character Creation? Week of July 21st & 23rd: Silver Age of Comics: What is Script Writing? Week of July 28th & 30th: Modern Comics: What is Art Creation? Additional themes will be added at a later date. Drop in any week and make comic books with us!
Learning Goals
Learners have the opportunity to be creative artists by creating their own comic books; courageous allies by encouraging their peers; critical thinkers by analyzing historical context; confident leaders by participating and working together. Learn to love comics and storytelling!

Parental Guidance
No previous comic bookmaking experience required.
We will be reading age-appropriate comic books that are listed in sources.
Supply List
Basic art supplies including but not limited to pencil, paper, a ruler, markers, crayons, and colored pencils.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Robin (they/them) is an illustrator, zine-maker, comics artist, and teaching artist. They have been teaching for over 3 years, making comics for over 10 years, making zines for over 7 years and hosting community drawing nights for the past 6 years. They have a background in psychology and neuroscience. Their teaching style is grounded in student-centered learning and Paulo Freire's methodologies. They like to garden, draw, read and nap.
